Medical Compression

Medical compression is a clinically proven therapy that uses specially designed garments to apply controlled pressure to the body using specially designed garments such as socks, stockings, sleeves, gloves or wraps. The purpose of compression is to help stimulate the lymphatic system, assisting in the removal of excess fluid and waste from tissues. The result is improved circulation, reduced discomfort and enhanced healing.

Medical compression garments are typically designed with ‘graduated pressure’, meaning the compression is strongest at the extremities such as the ankle or wrist and gradually decreases higher up the limb.

These garments are available in a wide range of styles and compression levels and for some individuals a custom-made garment may be required. Measurements can be taken by a trained specialist to ensure an accurate fit, particularly where standard sizes are not suitable.

Medical compression garments are typically supplied following a prescription or can be ordered privately. The garment is selected based on clinical need, ensuring the correct level of compression and optimal therapeutic benefit for each individual.
